6 Highly Effective Strains for Stress Relief

marijuana.iyana

In honor of April being Stress Awareness Month I wanted to highlight some varieties of cannabis that can help combat stress. Stress is part of all of our lives, and it's become so common for pretty much every working adult that being constantly stressed seems normal and healthy when in fact it's not. CBD and/or THC can help with migraines, headaches, muscle aches, and many other common physical symptoms of stress.

Reports have shown that CBD and/or THC do indeed significantly reduce short-term levels of depression, anxiety, and stress. A study by Washington State University studies the effects of cannabis on adults stress, anxiety, and depression levels.

"The WSU research team found that one puff of cannabis high in CBD and low in THC was optimal for reducing symptoms of depression, two puffs of any type of cannabis was sufficient to reduce symptoms of anxiety, while 10 or more puffs of cannabis high in CBD and high in THC produced the largest reductions in stress," according to an article published by Science Daily.

There are many ways to relieve stress, but of course cannabis is my most recommended and preferred way to receive relief. Here are some of my favorite and also some of the most effective strains treating stress.

1. Pineapple Express - Sativa Dominant

One of the first strains I had tried and one of my all time favorites for various reasons. It taste is pineapple and pine-y and the smell is also very crisp and citrusy. This is a sativa dominant strain so this one is best for morning or daytime use. But it provides a mellow but energetic buzz along with clarity, it won't fog your mind but more so clear the fog.

2. Granddaddy Purple - Indica Dominant

Another one of my first and a favorites, granddaddy purple a signature strain that has become a parent to many other cross bread strains. This infamous West Coast derived indica is actually also a cross itself of Purple Urkle and Big Bud. This strain provides a full head and body high because of it's high THC levels, 17% - 24% on average according to a report by Marijuana Break. It's dark purple features and dank smell make it clear that this strain is for someone who's either super stressed or has experience with strong indica strains. "While your thoughts may float in a dreamy buzz, your body is more likely to find itself fixed in one spot for the duration of GDP’s effects. Like most heavy indica varieties, Granddaddy Purple is typically pulled off the shelf for consumers looking to combat pain, stress, insomnia, appetite loss, and muscle spasms, " according to the strain description by Leafly.

3. Girl Scout Cookies - Hybrid

I know at this point I just sound redundant but this one really is one of my all time favorite strains, stress and anxiety reducing strains are usually my favorite. This strain is another product of two parent strains. GSC is a pure hybrid because it's cross of one indica and one sativa dominant strain, in this case OG Kush and Durban Poison. This strain provides a great balance and helps calm down that shaky feeling during moments of peak stress or anxiety.

4. OG Kush - Hybrid

OG Kush has been a classic strain enjoyed by many since the early 90's. It's not fully known how this strain was created and it's unique terpene profile but it's described as a pure hybrid. But this is a very strong strain as well and can easily replace an aspirin "With THC levels routinely registering in the 20-27% range, for instance, the punch that OG Kush packs is especially powerful — truly a power hitter for anyone who consumes it," according to Marijuana Break.

5. Harlequin - Sativa Dominant CBD*

CBD is one of most effective ways to cure headaches and other aches and pains cause my stress, so a strain high in CBD is a great option as well. Harlequin is a sativa dominant strain so this is another great for morning or daytime use. "Harlequin almost always develops a CBD:THC ratio of 5:2, making this strain one of the most effective out there for treatment of pain and anxiety, as CBD can counteract THC’s paranoia while amplifying its painkilling properties," according to the Leafly strain description. As studies as shown CBD is actually more effective for stress relief so if you want to de-stress but don't want to be super stoned this one is for you.

6. ACDC - Hybrid CBD*

ACDC has little to no psychoactive effect (varies per user) because of it's super high CBD attributes. By itself it provides a very mellow effect without actually getting the use high, once again because it's low THC and high CBD levels. ACDC can reach up to 20% in CBD content. This strain was basically made to knock out and discomfort pain completely.
